SURI: Two persons were killed, and one was injured, and at least five housed gutted in a clash between Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters today at Makra village in Birbhum district.

A strong contingent of police personnel under Additional Superintendent of Police Ananda Roy was on the spot, police said.

The two were injured by bullets fired from country-made guns in the two-hour-long clash and succumbed to their injuries at a hospital, hospital sources said.

However, no one was arrested as yet in connection with the clash.

Trading charges, ruling Trinamool Congress and BJP have blamed each other for the violence, police said.

Makra village is adjacent to Chakmondola where the officer-in-charge of Parui police station was attacked during a raid on October 24.

Parui police station officer-in-charge Prosenjit Dutta and three other policemen were injured when they raided Chakmondola village following reports that bombs were being manufactured there. Bombs were thrown at the police personnel during the raid.

A team of local BJP leaders was yesterday stopped by the police from entering Chakmondola village on the ground that prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC had been imposed there.
