NEW DELHI: Trading of charges took place at Delhi Commission for Women today as BJP MLA OP Sharma accused its chief Swati Maliwal of being biased and left the hearing which was called in connection with a complaint against Sharma by AAP legislator Alka Lamba of using foul language.
The DCW chief asked Sharma to reappear on August 24. "When questioned about the language he had used for Lamba and whether he is sorry for it, the BJP MLA responded saying he is an MLA and he should not be told about how he should be talking. He also denied that he is apologetic for his remarks," sources at DCW said.
Offended by his response, Maliwal asked Sharma to give this statement on an affidavit. "He repeated the same comments he made against Lamba during the meeting and when objected to, left the proceedings midway. He has now been summoned to appear before DCW on August 24 and asked to get evidence regarding his comments that Lamba is a drug addict," they said.
In his response, the BJP legislator said,"I was being questioned over the same things in a twisted manner. The way she (Lamba) vandalised the shops and the way she is behaving now... I think no one other than goons does that. I asked the commission that if they can suggest a different word than "gunda", I will correct it".
"Maliwal is being biased against me and she is disrespecting the constitutional post of DCW chief. I have no hopes of getting an unbiased hearing from here, so I told them my version of the story and asked them to communicate their decision to me," he added.
SHO Kashmere Gate Vijender Singh was also supposed to appear before the commission today regarding the alleged attack on Lamba during an anti-drug drive last week, but he was represented by his lawyers during the meeting.
A case of trespassing, damage to property and preventing government servant from discharging his duty was registered against Lamba, the AAP MLA from Chandni Chowk, at Kashmere Gate police station on August 10 on a complaint by traders.
Lamba was injured when someone threw a stone at her during an anti-drug drive there. A video clip later showed her vandalising shops along with some of her supporters.
She had lodged a complaint on the same day with the DCW against Sharma alleging he used foul language against her and threatened her.
