Delhi Police-AAP Government Rift Widens

NEW DELHI: The tussle between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Police chief B S Bassi escalated on Monday with both attacking each other following a meeting between them at Delhi Secretariat over the ‘deteriorating law and order situation’ in the national capital.

Kejriwal had summoned Bassi after the gruesome murder of a 19-year-old girl came to light last week. The CM had also sought a detailed report from the police chief about the case, where the girl, identified as Meenakshi, was stabbed around 30 times on the city streets.

After the meeting lasting one-hour, Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain accused Bassi of stonewalling several of the CM’s queries.

Jain, who was present at the meeting, said Bassi gave a list of 500 similar cases urging the government to offer Rs 5 lakh each as compensation to families of the victims like it did in the case of the teenage girl, which was rejected by Kejriwal.
