Pakistan Boat With Narcotics, Satellite Phones Intercepted Off Gujarat Coast

A Pakistani boat was intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard and Navy off Gujarat Coast on Monday, the Defence Ministry said in a statement. Large quantity of narcotics, satellite communication phones and Global Positioning Systems were seized from the boat and eight Pakistani nationals have been arrested.

The operation was launched on 18 April 15, based on intelligence inputs, and was conducted in close coordination by Headquarters Western Naval Command and the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North West), the statement said. It added that Multiple units from the Navy and Coast Guard were deployed for the operation, which included IN ships Nirghat, Kondul along with ICGS Sangram.

The investigation has led to the seizure of 232 packets of narcotics suspected to be heroin and worth up to Rs. 600 Crores in the international markets. The boat was brought to Porbandar for further investigations.
