The incident when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s offer of Rs.10,000 was rejected by nearly 300 beggars, is a clear example of how a beggar can surprise a top administrator.
This was when the AP government wanted to keep Pushkaram Ghats in Rajahmundry free of beggars and offered Rs.5,000 to each of the 300 beggar identified from the place. Much to the disappointment of the government, the beggars denied accepting the offer. Later, the government hiked the amount to Rs.10,000 which was also rejected by the beggars.
The reason might be that they easily earn more than Rs 10,000. This video by ‘Indi Viral’ is yet another example of how much beggars can earn in just 2 hours. With just innocent and helpless looks as investments, some beggars achieve other's sympathy and easily earn around Rs.30,000.
It is good to make others happy and help those in need. But next time you see a vagrant carrying a child begging for money, control your ‘act of kindness’ and think twice before offering your hard-earned money for free.
