President Cuts Short Odisha Visit After First Lady Taken Ill

BHUBANESWAR: President Pranab Mukherjee cancelled the rest part of his two-day Odisha visit on Friday after First Lady Suvra Mukherjee was taken ill.

He was on his way to Bhubaneswar from Puri, till last reports came in. He would fly back to New Delhi.

Mukherjee, who had completed “darshan” of the deities at Sri Jagannath Temple, was scheduled to spend the night at Raj Bhawan in Puri.

However, with his wife taken ill and admitted to R&R Army Hospital, the President cut short his visit. He left Puri at about 9 pm and headed to the State Capital by road.

Earlier in the day, Mukherjee had attended the Golden Jubiliee function of Rameshwar High School at Khurda, the birthplace of former Odisha CM JB Patnaik. From there, he flew to Puri where he visited the Jagannath Temple.

The President was scheduled to attend the convocation of National Law University Odisha at Cuttack and inaugurate the all-India seminar on “Global Legal Education” at KIIT University on Saturday.
