Shaktikanta is Economic Affairs Secy

NEW DELHI:  Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi effected a major bureaucratic reshuffle Friday night with appointment of Shaktikanta Das as Secretary, Economic Affairs, Hasmukh Adhia as Revenue Secretary, Anjuly Chib Duggal as Secretary, Financial services and Sunil Arora as new Secretary for Ministry of information and Broadcasting.

Shaktikanta Das, 1980 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre was till now serving as Revenue Secretary in the Finance Ministry. Das will succeed present secretary in economic affairs, Rajiv Mehrishi, IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, who will retire on August 31. Das’s position in department of revenue will be taken over by Hasmukh Adhia. In another significant reshuffle, Anjuly has been brought back to Finance Ministry from Corporate Affairs to take charge of Secretary financial services after Adhia relinquishes the charge of the Post. Tapan Ray, 1982 batch Gujarat Cadre officer has been appointed as new Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

JS Deepak, additional secretary in Ministry of Commerce has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology while Vijay Shankar Madan will be the new Secretary, Land Resources under Rural Development Ministry.

Sunil Arora, 1980 batch Rajasthan Cadre IAS officer was appointed as new I&B Secretary. Arora will succeed Bimal Julka, who is retiring on August 31. Arora was presently serving as Secretary, Skill development and Entrepreneurship. The ACC has appointed Rohit Nandan CMD, Air India to fill the position of Secretary, Skill development once Arora relinquishes the charge of the post and moves to I&B Ministry. Ajit M Sharan, IAS officer of Haryana Cadre and presently Secretary, department of sports has been moved to Ayush as incumbent Nilanjan Sanyal is set to retire on August 31. Rajiv Yadav, IAS officer of 1981 batch and presently Special Secretary in Chemical and Fertilizers will be the new Secretary, Sports in Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
