Manipur Government Gives Land for National Sports University

IMPHAL: The Manipur government has handed over 336.93 acres of land to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for building a National Sports University in the state.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh handed over the land at Yaithibi khunou in Thoubal district on Thursday at a function attended, among others, by representatives of the central ministry, a government release said. A team, headed by the Secretary Sports, Government of India, had visited Manipur in August 2014 and identified the site for establishment of the university.

The state government has decided to provide approximately 400 acres of land for future expansion of the university, the release said.
