JALANDHAR: Security forces have seized four packets of heroin, estimated worth Rs 20 crore in international market, in Ferozepur sector along the International Border in the wee hours today.

Jawans of the Border Security Force while patrolling along the Rattoke border outpost noticed suspicious activities of Pakistani smugglers at around 3 AM, BSF Inspector General, Punjab Frontier, R S Katariya said.

When challenged, they attacked the jawans, who fired in self-defence. The smugglers then fled the spot, he said.

The jawans searched the place and seized four packets of heroin, each containing one kg of the drug, valuing Rs 20 crore in international market, the IG added.

The senior official said that till now this year the BSF has recovered 61.8 kg of heroin along the border area in Ferozepur sector while 148.5 kg of drug has been seized from across the state.
