NEW DELHI: For the convenience of long distance passengers, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to introduce e-bedroll facility that allows passengers to order bedrolls online and from over-the-counter food plazas or fast food units set up by it.

Initially, the facility will be introduced on a trial basis at four stations viz New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai and Mumbai Central. Passengers can avail this facility by paying Rs 140 for two bedsheets and a pillow or Rs 110 for a blanket. These can be purchased together at a cost of Rs 250 or can be purchased separately.  IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director A K Manocha said a major feature of the scheme was that passengers can take the bedrolls home.

“Under the existing arrangement, bedrolls are provided only in AC classes in trains, now there is arrangement for a sleeper class passenger to get a takeaway bedroll kit at a highly concessional price. Moreover if a passenger of the AC class also likes to buy a fresh bedroll he may.
