Service Chiefs to Meet Parrikar on Pay Panel

NEW DELHI: Concerned over the increasing pay disparity between defence personnel and their civilian counterparts, the chiefs of the Army, Navy and the Air Force will soon meet the Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, to convey their views on more such “shortcomings” in the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission announced recently.

The armed forces’ personnel are of the view that if the Seventh Pay Commission’s recommendations were implemented in their present form, the personnel would be positioned much below their civilian counterparts in terms of salary, facilities and status, several defence sources told Express.

One of the main grudges that the armed forces have is with regard to the “risk-hardship matrix” dealing with the allowances for posting in tough areas.
