RS to Function Smoothly Post All-party Meet

NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha will function smoothly from Monday as all parties have agreed for passage of six pending legislations in the remaining period of the Winter Session.

The bills include Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill and Appropriation Bills. This was agreed to at an all-party meeting convened by Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari on Friday to break the on-going logjam between treasury and opposition benches on several issues.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said all parties agreed to have a discussion over issues including price rise and recent floods in Tamil Nadu.

He added that the Chairman has accepted the motion against the conduct of Governor of Arunachal Pradesh following the political development in the state. However, the time and date for discussion is yet to be decided.

No consensus could however be reached on the GST bill. In the meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley appealed to the parties for ensuring passage of GST bill.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the Congress would support the passage of important Bills.
