Juvenile Involvement in Negative Way is More Than an Adult: Shaina NC

Statistics proves that whether it is murder, rape or any kind of atrocities, juvenile contribution in a negative way is much more than that of an adult, Shaina said.

AHMEDABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shaina NC on Sunday said that according to statistics whether it is murder, rape or any kind of atrocities, the juvenile contribution in a negative way is much more than that of an adult.

“Statistics proves that whether it is murder, rape or any kind of atrocities, the juvenile contribution in a negative way is much more than that of an adult,” Shaina told ANI here.

Shaina added that the bill on juvenile justice Act should be passed in the Rajya Sabha else it will never do justice to Nirbhaya and her family by letting the convict go scot-free.

“When our honorable Minister Maneka Gandhi talked about bringing changes about juvenile justice act there was a lot of resistance. I think this is imperative that this bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha we must have a consensus and must pass it in the Rajya Sabha because otherwise we will never be able to do justice to Nirbhaya and her family with Mukesh going scot-free,” she added.

The juvenile offender of the horrific 16th December gang rape case is all set to walk free today as the Supreme Court has refused the dramatic post-midnight move of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to stay his release by giving an urgent hearing.

However, DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal and the lawyers of the women's panel hoped that since the matter has become subjudice, the government and Delhi Police will not release the juvenile offender.

The High Court had earlier refused to restrain the convict's release citing that there is no legal provision for the action. Maliwal reached the Chief Justice of India's residence around midnight and later arrived at the Registrar's office in the apex court premises.

The convict, who is now 20 years old and was known to be the most brutal of the attackers, has been taken to an undisclosed location from a correction home in North Delhi amid concerns that there was a threat to his life.
