Over 15,000 Toilets Built in Schools Across J-K: Government

JAMMU: More than 15,000 toilets have been built in schools across Jammu and Kashmir under the ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan’.

Minister of State for Education Priya Sethi said this on Saturday, adding that all toilets were made functional before August15.

She said that Convergence with the Rural Development Department was made to complete the construction of abandoned and not taken up buildings.

According to Baseline Survey of the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, J&K is among the worst states with poor sanitation.

The survey states that J&K is only ahead of Odisha and Bihar.

On August 15, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, wherein he promised to build separate toilets for boys and girls at schools nationwide within a year.
