CEC in Favour of Holding LS, Vidhan Sabha Elections Simultaneously

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi has expressed his consent on holding  Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections simultaneously.

AMRITSAR: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi has expressed his consent on holding  Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections simultaneously.

He, however, added that it was possible with political resolution only. He said recommendations of Parliamentary Committee in this matter need to be discussed at length, and if required, the law may also be amended.

The CEC reviewed revision work of voter lists of Punjab in a meeting with the district electoral officers of the state. Expressing concern on misuse of money during elections he said the Commission has recommended strict action against those indulging in distribution of liquor and money during electioneering. Zaidi said that Election Commission has also recommended that paid news and distribution of drugs during elections should be considered a crime.
