NASHIK: Even as the Nashik city gears up for New Year festivities, the local police have asked citizens to refrain from drunken driving and have also stepped up security.

Offences will registered against those who are found to have driven the vehicle after consuming alcohol, Deputy Commissioner of Police N Ambika said today.

"We are appealing citizens to refrain from drunken driving for their own safety," a police official said.

City hotels have been given permission to remain open till late night and night patrolling by police personnel will be increased, Ambika said.

Meanwhile, shops and hotels have been illuminated to welcome the New Year 2016.
