KHARGONE: Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today said the Narendra Modi government at the Centre achieved in eight months what the Congress governments had failed to do in the last sixty years.

"What the earlier Congress governments were unable to do in the last 60 years, Modi's government did all those things in just eight months," said Anandiben, addressing a meeting after unveiling statues of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and the late Keshav Lal Patel at a college in Mandleshwar in the district.

Congress neglected education, farmers and girls' welfare, she alleged.      She also criticised the UPA government for eight-year delay in granting permission to install gates at the Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat.

"Modi (as the Chief Minister) had requested the UPA government many times but it did not give approval and the water which was supposed to reach the fields got wasted," she said.

The NDA government granted nod within 15 days of coming to power, and Gujarat government recently also cleared sub-minor canal project worth Rs 2,000 crore, she said.

"Within four months the farmers in Gujarat will get the Narmada water," Anandiben said.

She also praised her Madhya Pradesh counterpart, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, for the performance of his government.

The Gujarat CM was gifted a Maheshwari sari on the occasion.
