NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has advised private TV channels to telecast the Republic Day event accompanied with sign language to help the differently-abled people connect meaningfully with this important 'National Day'.

In an advisory released to broadcasters yesterday, the ministry said that public broadcaster Doordarshan has indicated that DD News channel will carry the sign language interpretation of the event which it is willing to share free of cost with TV channels, who wish to carry it.

"Whereas the national media has always been in the forefront of taking up important issues covering national integration, progress of disadvantaged sections, etc, it would be another step in the right direction by the media to facilitate access to the RD parade commentary to differently- abled people," the advisory said.

It advised channels to carry the signals of DD News with sign language interpretation.
