KOLKATA: The CBI on Friday grilled TMC Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Hassan alias Imran for his alleged involvement in selling a Bengali daily to Saradha Group chairman Sudipto Sen, now jailed in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
The Bengali daily Kalom, of which Hassan was the editor, was purchased by Sen allegedly at an inflated price. Hassan has earlier been interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate, which is also investigating the scam.
A founder member of the banned SIMI, he got embroiled in a controversy last year when allegations were raised about his links with the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh to which he had channelised Saradha funds against the Awami League Govt in Bangladesh.
While the MP has consistently denied the allegations, the opposition parties in West Bengal, mainly the BJP, had demanded action against him and also charged him with aiding terrorists from Bangladesh who took shelter in the state.
