GIRIDIH: Maoists today blew up two newly constructed buildings at Chainpur in Giridih district, police said.

Around 50 Maoists reached the area in the early hours and stuffed explosive materials before blowing up a three-storey building and an adjacent single-storey house, Superintendent of Police Kuldip Diwedi said. There was, however, no loss of life.

The buildings were constructed for development of sericulture, a state and Central government initiative.

A failed attempt of extortion from contractors could be the reason for the destruction of buildings, he said
