Train services in Malda division of Eastern Railway was affected on Sunday as tracks caved in two places following incessant rains.

MALDA: Train services in Malda division of Eastern Railway was affected today as tracks caved in two places following incessant rains.

Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Argal said many trains were diverted through Bihar while few had to be cancelled.

The cave-ins occured at Jamirghata near Gour Malda station where 100 metre tracks sank and at Sujnipara where some portion of the track similarly stuck in the soft soil, the official said.

Due to the developments the Puri-Kamakhya Express, Garib Rath Express and Brahmaputra Mail, plying in the double line,had to be diverted through Bihar.

The running of Azimganj Malda Town Passenger and Malda Howrah Passenger, plying along single line, were disrupted for the same reasons.

Railway officials were at work to restore the tracks and normalise train movement on both single and double line stretches in the section by this afternoon, he said.
