Former Union Minister Handique Passes Away

GUWAHATI: Former Union Minister Bijoy Krishna Handique passed away at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) on Sunday. He was 81. The Congress veteran was suffering from heart ailments and admitted to the JMCH on Saturday.

Handique represented the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency for six straight terms from 1991 to 2009.

 He also served as a Rajya Sabha member from 1980 to 1986. He had served as the junior minister in the ministries of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Parliamentary Affairs and Defence and was also the Minister of Development of North Eastern Region.
