HC Issues Notice to Uttarakhand Government on Maggi Ban Based on Nestle's Petition

Uttarakhand government had imposed a 90-day ban on production, sale and storage of Maggi noodles in the state yesterday following failure of its samples in tests.

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand High Court today issued notice to the state government seeking its response to a petition by Nestle India challenging the ban imposed on Maggi noodles in the state.

Justice Alok Singh asked the government to submit its response by June 15. In its writ petition, Nestle alleged that the state government took the decision "unilaterally" to ban Maggi noodles in the state without sharing the test reports of the samples of the food product with the company.

The Uttarakhand government had imposed a 90-day ban on production, sale and storage of Maggi noodles in the state yesterday following failure of its samples in tests conducted at a laboratory in Rudrapur.

The samples were found to be containing monosodium glutamate which is harmful to human health, officials in Dehradun said.
