6 Killed, 6 Injured in Road Mishap in Maharashtra

PUNE: Six persons were today killed and as many were injured when a tar-laden container collided with six other vehicles, including a truck, on the Sinhagad road here, police said.       

The mishap occurred this morning when driver of the container lost control of the wheels, as a result of which it crushed six other vehicle plying on the road, API B B Pingale of Sinhagad police station said.            

The deceased have been identified as Subhash Chaudhari (from Dombivli), Balaji Ramsing Rathod (35), Ravindra Tukaram Sawant (35), Sarika Sawant (30), Revati Sawant (10) and Mahendra Gaikwad (23 from Usmanabad district).       

The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. As a result, traffic was disturbed for a short time, he added.           

The container's driver escaped from the spot and a case under relevant sections of IPC and Motor Vehicle has been registered and investigation is underway, police said.
