Advani, Union Minister Irani to Participate in IYD Shivirs in HP

SHIMLA:  Veteran BJP leader L K Advani will participate in a yoga shivir at Palampur while Union minister Smriti Irani is set to take part in another shivir here on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Advani reached Palampur this evening while Irani reached here late evening and will leave for Delhi immediately after the function at Chaura Maidan (Ambedkar Chowk), state BJP spokesperson Ganesh Dutt said.

International Yoga Day will be celebrated throughout the state tomorrow as per the Centre's directions. District Ayurvedic Officers in the state have been asked to celebrate the day involving schools, colleges, universities, general public, yoga institutions, police personnel, NCC cadets, NSS and Nehru Yuva Kendra, an official spokesman said.

Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopath, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) would organise the event at Chaura Maidan in collaboration with Patanjali Yog Peeth and Manas Kalyan Bahudesh Society from 6.30 AM to 7:35 AM.

Initially, the programme was to be organised by Art of Living also but due to clash of timing it was not possible as the union HRD minister has a busy schedule and has to return immediately after the function, Ganesh Dutt said.

Advani would participate in the Yoga day programme at Kayakalp, alongwith former chief minister Shanta Kumar and another programme would be held in agriculture university auditorium which would last four hours, Kumar said.

The Army Training Command (ARTRAC) conducted a Yoga shivir at Annandale last evening followed by another shivir at Ridge this evening.

While the Himachal Pradesh University, which organised "Run for Propagating yoga" from Scandal Point to university today, would hold a function at the tomorrow, Vice Chancellor, Prof A D N Bajpai said.

ITBP and several other organisations also organised Yoga camps to mark the day.
