SRI NAGAR: A teacher appointed by the Jammu and Kashmir government under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) failed to write an essay on the cow and solve a Class IV math problem in a court room during a mock test conducted by a High Court judge to check his ability.

It prompted the court to issue a slew of directions, including registration of case against the teacher and action against him and screening of degree certificates of teachers appointed under the SSA.

The directions were issued by Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar on a petition challenging the appointment of Mohammad Imran Khan as Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teacher under the SSA.

The petitioner had alleged that Imran’s certificates issued by the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Delhi, and Global Open University, Nagaland, were not recognised. The Class XII certificate issued to Imran shows that he secured 74 per cent marks in Urdu, 73 per cent  in English and 66 per cent in mathematics.

In order to check the ability of the teacher, the judge decided to conduct the mock test in the court room. The teacher was asked to write an essay on “Cow” in Urdu or English. After failing to write the answer, Imran requested that he be allowed to write the essay outside the court room. He was granted permission, but he failed to write the essay in either of the two languages. Instead of feeling sorry, the teacher told the court that he’s skilled in mathematics and can solve any problem. The judge asked a lawyer present in the court room to frame a question of Class IV.  However, the teacher flunked this as well.
