UP Panchayat Polls: 29 Cartons of Liquor Seized, 3 Arrested

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Three persons were arrested in Shamli district with 29 cartons of liquor that police suspected were being smuggled into Uttar Pradesh from Haryana for distribution during the upcoming Panchayat polls.     

Police intercepted a tractor at Kandhla town in Shamli yesterday and seized the cartons. Three persons -- Devender, Amrish and Jai Kumar -- were arrested in this connection, SHO R K Sharma said.            

A tractor, a motorcycle, and a licensed rifle were also seized from their possession, he said.
