Governor Should Not Make Political Statements: LF Chairman

KOLKATA: West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose today said a Governor should behave impartially and refrain from making political statements. Bose was reacting to West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi's comment yesterday that there appeared to be "some kind of political consideration" behind returning the Sahitya Akademi awards.

"He should behave impartially and refrain from making political statements. He should not behave in such a way as to give an impression that he is talking as an executive (of a political party). He can write to the central government regarding an issue of the state. But he can't make such political comments," Bose observed.

Tripathi yesterday said there appeared to be "some kind of political consideration" behind returning the Sahitya Akademi awards by various writers in protest against "growing intolerance".
