NEW DELHI: Two minor girls were gang-raped in two separate incidents here in the last 24 hours in the second such incident after a four-year-old girl was raped last week. While a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was gang-raped in Nihal Vihar, a five-year-old was gang-raped in Anand Vihar.

In the first incident, the two-and-a-half-year-old girl was kidnapped and gang-raped by two bike-borne men who abducted her on Friday night from outside her home. The profusely bleeding girl was later found by locals in a park and was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where she is undergoing treatment, the police said. They have registered a case under IPC and POCSO Act but the accused are still at large.

The police have released video footage from security cameras near the girl’s house that shows the two men with the child on a bike. “Her clothes were torn with blood stains all over them. Locals saw her and she told them she was sexually assaulted,” said a police officer.

In the other incident, three men under the influence of intoxicants abducted the five-year-old the same evening and gang-raped her. The victim, who sustained severe injuries in her private parts, was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. Locals nabbed the assailants from the spot after they heard the screams of the girl. The accused Prakash, Rewati and Sitaram were thrashed and later handed over to the police.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacked Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the two incidents. He tweeted: “Repeated rape of minors is shameful and worrying. Delhi Police has completely failed to provide safety. What are the PM (a)n(d) his LG (Lieutenant Governor) doing?”
