PM Skirted Queries on Package: Nitish

PATNA: Countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the former’s Bhagalpur speech on Tuesday was defensive and it appeared that he was rattled since the economy had slowed down.

“Modi must have whipped up his figures and data today(Tuesday) from the same place he whipped up his special package -- thin air,” Nitish tweeted.

Talking to reporters later, Nitish said, “I was expecting the PM to say something on the issue of the special package and our reservations but he skirted the issue.”  He had alleged that Modi’s Rs 1,25,000-crore special package contained mostly “repackaged” old schemes.

He countered all of Modi’s allegations point by point. “Will the farmers have to wait for an increase in the MSP for five years when  crops have already been harvested?” he said.
