MUMBAI: The investigation into the Sheena Bora murder case took another turn on Thursday, with the city police’s claim that prime accused in the case, Indrani Mukerjea, had confessed on Wednesday midnight to her involvement in killing her daughter on April 24, 2012.
As Sheena’s bitter remarks on Indrani in her diary too have surfaced and Indrani’s husband Peter has denied that there was any money in Sheena’s name, the police are grappling to zero in on the motive behind the murder — if it was a dispute over property or a personal dispute.
Police sources said that Indrani broke down and confessed to her crime. However, there was no official confirmation as it was in case of her former husband Sanjeev Khanna’s admission of guilt.
City Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had informed the media about Khanna’s confession last week.
Police had called Peter for questioning on Thursday, the second consecutive day, to verify Indrani’s claims on the couple’s financial transactions. The police made Peter and Indrani sit together and face a volley of their questions. It was for the first time that they saw each other after her arrest on August 25.
Former Maharashtra Additional Director General of Police Sudhakar Suradkar said that Indrani’s reported confession had no legal sanctity. “It is not admissible in the court. At the most, it can provide only a clue in their probe,” he said.
Indrani’s other side of a ‘monster mom’ came to light through Sheena’s entries in her diary, which she used to write during her stay in Guwahati, surfaced. In her diary, Sheena dubbed Indrani a “witch”. The entries also suggest that Sheena was in touch with her biological father Siddharth Das.
“Disgusting life it is. I hate my mother, that bloody b***h. She is not a mother. She is a witch,’ screams another diary entry, which was purportedly written on her birthday.
