NEW DELHI: Nepal Ambassador Deep Upadhyay on Thursday hoped that the Saudi Government would deliver justice to the victims of the Guragaon Rape case, in which a Saudi diplomat was accused of confining and raping two Nepali women who worked as his domestic help.
“There are good relations between Government of Saudi, India and Nepal. So diplomatically also, if there has been a crime, the criminal should be punished,” said Upadhyay.
He also said that he hoped the Saudi government would take necessary action.
“It depends on Saudi Government’s decision. I hope the government will definitely think about delivering justice, if the case is established,” he added.
The Saudi diplomat Majed Hassan Ashoor, who was accused of confining and raping two Nepali women who worked as his domestic help, left India on Wednesday.
The First Secretary being a diplomat is governed by the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, according to which diplomats enjoy immunity from arrest, criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits in the countries where they are posted.
