Seven Youths Die as Mini-truck Falls From Bridge

The mini-truck carrying kabaddi players, their supporters in Bonai block was returning after a match the mishap occurred.

LAHUNIPARA: At least seven persons, including some rural kabaddi players, were killed and 15 others injured after a mini-truck in which they were travelling plunged from a bridge on Kaleiposh-Bahraposhi State Highway-10 (A) near Khuntgaon under Lahunipara police limits in Sundargarh district at around 5 pm on Saturday.

The mini-truck carrying players of a kabaddi team and their supporters of Sendhpur village in Bonai block was returning after a match at Dhudi village when the mishap occurred. Sources said as the driver lost control over the vehicle, it fell from the bridge to the ground.

At least eight critically injured persons were shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital. Bonai Additional SP RB Panigrahi identified the deceased as Dharmendra Naik (23), Gurucharan Kishan (22), Dharanidhar Naik (65), Abhimanyu Kalo (50), Chandra Sekhar Pradhan (18) and Umesh Kishan (24).

Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh said three persons died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital and some of them were later shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital.

A case has been registered at Lahunipara police station and the bodies will be sent for autopsy on Sunday.
