2 pc Reservation for Transgenders in Allocation of Government Shops

Transgenders will get two per cent reservation in allocation of government shops to people in urban bodies of Chhattisgarh.

RAIPUR: Transgenders will get two per cent reservation in allocation of government shops to people in urban bodies of Chhattisgarh.

State's Urban Administration and Development Department has issued directives in this regard last evening ensuring 2 per cent quota for people belonging to third gender in allocation of shops under municipal corporations, an official statement here said today.

Following the directives of Supreme Court, Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had constituted an expert committee to discuss over measures for the welfare and upliftment of the third gender, the release said.

Based on the recommendation of the committee, the state government has included a provision of  two per cent reservation for transgenders under rule 8 of Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation (Transfer of Immovable Property) Rules, 1994 and rule 8 of Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation (Transfer of Immovable Property) Rules, 1996, it added.
