BJP Again Stages Walkout in Himachal Assembly

BJP staged a walkout in the Assembly after being denied discussion on developments in ED case against Virbhadra.

SHIMLA: The opposition BJP today again staged a walkout in Himachal Pradesh Assembly after Speaker B B L Butail did not allow discussion on developments in the ED case against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh saying the matter is "sub-judice".

Pressing for discussion on the issue under Rule 67 (adjournment motion), the opposition BJP said despite protests in the House last week, there has been no change in the situation.

"Virbhadra Singh is the leader of the House and allegations of corruption against him are casting shadow on the image of the government and also the dignity of the office held by him," BJP legislator Bindal said.

"The CM has so far not said anything in the Assembly about attachment of his properties by the ED. Now reports of his bank accounts being sealed are appearing in the media and the matter must be allowed to be debated," chief whip of BJP, Suresh Bharadwaj said.

Ravinder Ravi of BJP said due to CBI and ED probe against the Chief Minister, development has come to a standstill in the state.

The Speaker, however, ruled that no debate can be held on the matter, which was pending before the courts and said, "let the law take its own course".

"The matter cannot be discussed under the rules and you will not achieve anything through the debate. You must participate in the proceedings," Butail ruled and proceeded with question hour.

This triggered more protests in the BJP benches following which they staged a walkout. PTI
