NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday firmly rejected the demand of the agitating of NIT-Srinagar students to shift the campus, but agreed to set up a probe panel to look into the allegations of “partisan approach” of the administration.

At a two-and-half-hour meeting with HRD Minister Smriti Irani, the student delegation raised charges of “highhandedness and partisan approach” against the administration and requested the Minister to shift the campus, which she promptly shot down, saying Srinagar was part of the country.

“She listened to us patiently and said that as far as ensuring the law and order in the campus was concerned, she would approach the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said one of the students of the delegation.

The meeting was attended by Higher Education Secretary V S Oberoi and joint secretary in charge of NIT S P Goel.
