NEW DELHI: A designated CBI Court on Saturday sent former IAF chief S P Tyagi to judicial custody till December 30 after the CBI submitted that he was not required for further custodial interrogation in the AgustaWestland VVIP helicopter scam.
Special CBI judge Arvind Kumar also sent Tyagi's cousin Sanjeev and lawyer Gautam Khaitan, both co-accused in the case.
Soon after the agency’s submission before the court, the trio moved the bail applications. The court will hear their bail pleas on December 21 as the CBI sought time to reply to their applications.
During the proceedings, the counsel appearing for Tyagi submitted before the court that the Italian apex court had ordered retrial of former Finmeccanica executives in VVIP chopper scam case, making the CBI's contention weak in the case here0.
The court, however, said it will take up the matter on next date of hearing fixed fore December 21.
The court had on December 14 extended the CBI remand of the trio by three days after the CBI had contended it was a "very serious" case requiring interrogation to unearth larger conspiracy as "interest of the nation was compromised".
