NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi is likely to address the nation on the eve of new year on December 31 and sources claimed that he might announce some initiatives to ease cash flow after the demonetisation. He may also speak about some policies in the interest of common people.
Earlier, on November 8, the PM had addressed the nation and had spoken about a sudden ban on Rs 500 and 1,000 notes, a move aimed at eliminating corruption and black or undeclared money. The deadline for depositing old notes in bank accounts is going to end on December 30 and the nation is expecting some announcement which can provide relief from the continuing cash crunch. The days after the ban saw long lines at banks and ATMs as people rushed to exchange old notes for new currency over the counter.
After the note ban, PM Modi has spoken several times on demonetisation as an important step to tackle the menace of corruption and black money requesting people to bear the ‘short-term pain’ for ‘long-term gain’.
Sources said that the PM can make some announcement on several initiatives including some loan relief for farmers.
Earlier, On December 27, PM Modi met economists and experts at a meeting in Niti Aayog to discuss the current economic situation. Before this, On December 25, he had addressed his last Mann ki Baat of the year when he introduced two new schemes to promote digital transactions - Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana.
