CPM, TMC set up help desks to aid people in bank queues

In an attempt to fish in murky waters of public harassment due to demonetisation, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress have opened ‘help desks’ throughout West Bengal.

KOLKATA: It's not only the Prime Minister who is tugging at the heart strings of the millions lining up outside banks and ATMs. In West Bengal, the CPM and Trinamool Congress have both launched PR offensives in Bengal by setting up help desks to assist unlettered people in depositing or withdrawing money from banks besides plying them with drinking water.

“Many of these people do not understand the complexities of the bank forms. Our help desks are assisting such people. We were ordered to set up help desks by Mamata Banerjee on Monday,” said Trinamool Congress Kharagpur unit chief Babla Sengupta.

Apart from assisting the people in filling the forms, the CPM is also making seating arrangements for the elderly people waiting in the queues.
