JAMMU: Political, social and religious organisations have demanded "stern action" against a youth who reportedly set the national flag on fire in the premises of the Government Dental College here after India lost the semi-finals in the World T20 tournament.

BJP MLA from Nowshera Ravinder Raina visited the GDC and demanded that all "anti-national elements", including the students who allegedly set the national flag on fire on Thursday be booked for sedition charges.

"No anti-national element, or the force that disrespects the national flag must be spared. This student who has disrespected the national flag must be booked for sedition," Raina said.

The state unit of Shiv Sena and Dogra Front held a protest march and demanded action against the accused for setting the national flag on fire.

The Jammu unit of Shri Ram Sena also held a protest demanding strict action against the accused.

The chairman of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) Harsh Dev Singh condemned the alleged burning of the tricolour and raising of pro-Pak slogans in GDC Jammu by a student.

Singh said that the lockdown of the NIT campus in Srinagar was no solution in the ugly turn of events in the institution as a fallout of the T20 World Cup match between India and the West Indies.

He also sought strict action under law against all those who indulged in "anti-national" activities inside the campus.

He said that all those who raised pro-azadi slogans, celebrated the defeat of India in semi-finals of the World cup, pelted stones on those raising pro-India slogans besides indulging in "India bashing" should be booked for sedition.
