Two CRPF Jawans and Polling Personnel Killed in Accident

3 persons, including 2 CRPF jawans, killed and 4 others injured in an accident in Darjeeling while returning from WB poll duty.

KOLKATA: Three persons, including two CRPF jawans, were killed and four others injured in a road accident in Darjeeling while returning from duty after the West Bengal Assembly poll.

CRPF jawan Narayan Chandra Pradhan, who hails from Odisha's Jajpur, died in the mishap last night along with another jawan, the EC officials said.

A polling personnel Vishnu Rawat, who works as a bank clerk, was also killed in the accident, they said.

Four persons were also left injured in the incident. The driver is in a critical condition in the Siliguri hospital, officials said.

The commission has expressed its deep condolences to the family of the deceased.

For the fifth phase of polling, 349 candidates are in the fray after scrutiny and withdrawal.

During the day, EC officials held a video conference with all observers and senior police officers to review poll preparedness for the third phase on April 21.
