Two killed; seven hurt after a dharamshala roof caves in in Chhatarpur

A 6-year-old boy and an elderly woman were killed and seven others injured when the roof of a dharamshala (rest-house) caved in here, a senior official said today.

CHHATTARPUR: A 6-year-old boy and an elderly woman were killed and seven others injured when the roof of a dharamshala (rest-house) caved in here, a senior official said today.

The incident took place last evening at Jatashankar Dham where a temple of Lord Hanuman is located, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bijawar, Ravindra Choukse said.

The roof of the dharamshala caved in as a rock fell over it, trapping nine persons who were having their meals, he said.

Yash Raj (6) and a 70-year-old woman, who has not been identified yet, were killed in the incident.

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to kin of those killed in the incident and Rs 10,000 each to the seriously injured.

The injured were admitted initially in Bijawar and later transferred to Chhattarpur district hospital, the SDM added.
