LUCKNOW: A 12-year-old girl left those manning the inspector general’s office at Varanasi on Wednesday morning in a state of shock when she came with an application seeking euthanasia. Anushka, 12, from Chandauli district told IG S K Bhagat that either justice be delivered to her or she should be allowed to end her life.

Narrating her tale of woe to the officer, Anushka accused her maternal uncle of selling her mother and lodging a false dowry harassment case against her father after which he was in jail for the past year. She also charged the Chandauli police of ignoring her repeated pleas seeking justice.

Anushka told cops that her father Om Prakash Pandey married her mother Gudia 13 years ago. They had three children with Anushka being the eldest. Last year, on November 15, her maternal uncle Chandrashekhar Tiwari came and took her mother along. Anushka said her mother promised to return the same evening after meeting her ailing grandmother but she did not. When Om Prakash asked Tiwari to send Gudia back, the latter lodged an FIR accusing the former of harassing Gudia for dowry. Acting on the FIR, Chandauli police arrested Om Prakash in December.

Now the children live with their grandparents. Anushka said they had to discontinue their schooling as there was no money to pay the fees. Taking a serious note of her plea, IG Bhagat has now ordered Chandauli police chief Deepika Tiwari to look into the matter and report to him.
