NEW DELHI: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man working part-time at her father's shop in north Delhi's Roop Nagar area, police said today.

The accused, identified as Om Prakash, has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused, a plumber by profession, was produced before a court which sent him to 14-days' judicial custody, said a senior police official.

According to police, the alleged incident took place on Saturday.

The accused had gone to the victim's house and, finding her alone there, allegedly sexually assaulted her. But the girl's elder brother arrived on the scene and raised an alarm, said the official.

Locals then caught hold of the accused and called the police.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where she had to undergo a minor surgery, said the official, adding that she was later counselled by an NGO.

The girl studies in Class 4 at a government school. Her father owns a hardware shop where the accused is a part-time employee, the official added.
