Noida Authority Chief Engineer Held for Mother of all Corruption

NEW DELHI: Suspended Noida Authority chief engineer Yadav Singh was arrested by the CBI in the national capital on Wednesday in connection with a corruption case registered against him a year ago.

“The CBI has arrested Yadav Singh, the then Chief Engineer of Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway authorities in Uttar Pradesh, in an ongoing investigation in a case of abusing his official position in awarding contracts and causing wrongful loss to the government exchequer,” said a CBI officer.

Yadav was questioned at the CBI headquarters and arrested as he was elusive, the officer said, adding that he would be produced in the Ghaziabad court on Thursday. Singh had allegedly amassed assets worth over Rs 1,000 crore. Last year, the agency had recovered over Rs 100 crore in cash, besides jewellery from his residence during a raid.

The agency is also probing the nexus between Noida-based builders, Uttar Pradesh politicians and Singh.

Sources said Singh enjoyed plum postings for the last one decade and the State failed to take action against him. “He had executed projects worth around Rs 8,000 crore in Noida in the last 12 years,” a CBI officer said.
