Swaraj Helps Bring Distressed Indian Woman in Germany Back Home

The External Affairs Minister sprang to the rescue of an Indian woman who was stuck in a refugee camp in Germany with her eight-year-old daughter.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj sprang to the rescue of an Indian woman who was stuck in a refugee camp in Germany with her eight-year-old daughter.

In a YouTube video, the woman Gurpreet had posted that she was cheated by her in-laws and sent to a refugee camp in Frankfurt. She pleaded with the Indian government to help her return to India.

The Indian Embassy in Germany reported the video to Swaraj. The minister tweeted the video and obtained Gurpreet's phone number. In another tweet, she confirmed that the Indian consul general in Frankfurt got in touch with Gurpreet.

On Wednesday, Swaraj posted a picture of Gurpreet and her daughter at the

Indian consulate after their rescue from the camp. Gurpreet is scheduled to reach New Delhi today in an Air India flight.

In another tweet, Sushma Swaraj complimented the Indian Ambassador to Germany Gurjit Singh, and consul general Raveesh Kumar for helping the distraught woman and her child.
