Robbers Forced to Abandon Vehicle After Engine Was Turned Off Using GPS

GHAZIABAD: Tehcnology today helped foil a kidnap and robbery attempt as car theives who stole an SUV from a marriage function in Link Road here, after kidnapping its driver, abandoned it as the owner used its GPS to turn off the engine.

The car was later found abandoned at Diamond flyover in Kavi Nagar area, police sources said. Kavi Nagar SHO Ashok Shishodia told PTI that 4 robbers had overpowered the driver Anil Kaushik at the marriage yesterday and made away with the vehicle after forcing him to duck inside.

The owner, S N Sharma received a message on his mobile about the sudden movement of his car. He immediately turned off the ignition with the help of GPS device, police said.

Repeated attempts by the robbers to start the car engine went in vain and they were compelled to leave the SUV at the flyover.

An FIR has been registered at Indirapuram police station in this regard, Shishodia said.
