JNU Row: Kanhaiya's Parents Cry Foul

BEGUSARAI: The parents of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar on Sunday expressed disappointment over the government’s move to send their son to police custody, saying it an attempt on part of the ruling dispensation to suppress the Left movement.

Denying that his son raised anti-India slogans in the varsity, Kanhaiya’s father this episode is being blown out of proportion under political compulsions.

“It is an attempt to suppress the Left movement and he (Kanhaiya) did not shout anti national slogan,” Kanhaiya’s father Jaishankar told ANI.

Kanhaiya’s mother Meena Devi, who is an anganwadi worker, said this is an attempt to suppress the poor, adding that her son has been arrested for interrogation as he is the president of the students union.

The Delhi Police had earlier on Friday arrested Kumar on charges of sedition.
