LUCKNOW: A 17-year-old girl, who had been missing for the last five days, has been found murdered, allegedly after being gang-raped, near Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s official residence.

The Class 12 student of the Rani Laxmi Bai College had been missing since Wednesday morning when she went to give her board exams.

Opposition members on Tuesday staged a walkout in the UP Assembly, criticising the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and demanded action to be taken against those responsible in this brutal murder.

Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya (Bahujan Samaj Party) raised the issue and alleged that the state government has failed to control law and order due to which there was an atmosphere of fear in society.

He said the recovery of the body of the girl near the Chief Minister’s residence showed that there was no ‘fear’ of police among unscrupulous elements.

“The investigation took place after the incident and an FIR was lodged at the Jankipuram Police Station. The girl was found dead in a drain near between the Chief Minister’s residence and the DGP headquarters,” Maurya said.

“For five days police was inactive and didn’t take any action. This shows the irresponsibility of police. Because of that only, the student lost her life,” he added.

The medical reports suggest that the girl was gang-raped and was brutally murdered.

“The perpetrators of the incident have still not been found by the police. We demand the arrest of all those who were involved in this case. We also demand that action should be taken against the responsible policemen,” he said.
