Central Universities to Hoist Tricolor Atop Their Buildings

NEW DELHI: Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday held a meeting with the vice-chancellors of central universities, during which the vice-chancellors unanimously decided that the national flag would be hoisted atop central building of all these varsities.

The meeting was held in the wake of widespread protests by students across several universities in the country after JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on charges of sedition.

The JNU students are on strike demanding Kanhaiya Kumar's release.

Kanhaiya was booked under sedition charge in connection with an event in JNU where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised last week. He has been remanded to judicial custody till March 2.
